Questions, answered.

Which JLPT levels does ShibaGo cover?

All five: N5, N4, N3, N2, and N1. That's 7,000+ vocabulary words, 85+ grammar patterns, and full hiragana and katakana instruction, organized as a structured curriculum for each level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.

How does ShibaGo help me pass the JLPT?

Three ways. A curriculum — vocabulary and grammar sequenced by JLPT level, in the order you need them. Spaced-repetition flashcards that resurface each word right before you'd forget it. And quiz gating: you must score 80% or higher on a unit quiz to unlock the next one, so you can't skim past material you haven't actually learned.

What is FSRS spaced repetition?

FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) is a modern algorithm that models your personal forgetting curve for every card. Instead of fixed review intervals, it predicts when you're about to forget a word and schedules the review at exactly that moment — so you spend your study time on the words that need it.

I'm a complete beginner — can I use ShibaGo?

Yes. ShibaGo starts with hiragana and katakana, and every flashcard shows furigana readings you can tap to reveal. You can go from zero Japanese to JLPT N5 vocabulary inside one app, about ten minutes a day.

Do I still need Anki or another flashcard app?

No. Spaced repetition is built in — the same class of algorithm serious Anki users install by hand, already tuned and wrapped in a curriculum. No deck downloads, no setup, no scheduling settings.

Is ShibaGo available on Android?

Not yet. ShibaGo is currently for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (iOS 17.6 or later).

How long does it take to prepare for JLPT N5?

Most learners who study consistently — around ten minutes a day — cover the N5 vocabulary and grammar in a few months. The JLPT is offered in July and December, so a daily habit started now puts the next sitting within reach.

The JLPT comes twice a year.
Be ready for the next one.
